Paul writes, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast.” He also writes, “You are severed from Christ, you who would be justified by the law; you have fallen away from grace.” Certainly, Law brings conviction, but it also brings condemnation, damnation, and eternal loss.
James says, “For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become guilty of all of it.” In other words, the one who tells a little white law is guilty of homosexual acts and murder. He who tries to earn salvation by keeping the law is damned.
The Moral Law stands, and it has always stood. Long before Moses was born, thou shall not murder was in force and well known. Those laws stand forever. Without Christ, they will bring damnation on those who break them. Even those in Christ sin by breaking them and more than that, may suffer the consequences of violating the laws of men. Breaking that law is sin and calls for repentance but “the Blood of Christ cleanses from all (ALL) sin.”
The Laws that pertained specifically to the Mosaic Covenant are null and void for those who are in Christ and never, ever applied to gentiles. We are not required to wash our hands before praying. We are not required to go to church on Saturday nor to abstain from eating pork. You are not banned from church attendance because you touched a chair a woman sat in during her period or going to church because you had sex with your wife the night before… Those things are specific to the Law of Moses, and we are not under the law but under grace. We are under the Covenant of Grace, the New Covenant.
The problem with the law comes in the fact that Satan uses it to place Christians under bondage and to lose their salvation. When a Christian comes to believe that he must obey the law of Moses to be saved, he tries to put other Christians under that same bondage. The Devil has a way of making Christians who have fallen back under the Law feel superior to all other Christians. Soon they are preaching that “If you will only obey these two (or three) laws that I obey, you can be holy like me… When a Christian starts talking like that, you know that they have been severed from Christ and fallen from grace.
